Canandaigua, NY-In this day and age most people are trying to eat healthy with emphasis on eating local fresh produce. What could be any more fresh or local than growing it yourself. Come learn how you can grow fresh, nutritious salad sprouts/microgreens throughout the winter months and ahead on Thursday, November 11 from 6:30 – 7:30 pm at the Ontario County Cooperative Extension, 480 North Main Street, Canandaigua. These sprouts/microgreens are grown in soil and include sunflower, radish, buckwheat, pea, and broccoli. They are grown for the stem and seed leaf unlike typical sprouts which are grown for root, stem and seed leaf in jars. The sprouts/microgreens can be used as a complete salad or used to extend lettuces, spinach, or typical salad greens. With a few simple steps and without a lot of special equipment, you can grow all the salad sprouts/microgreens you need. Join Cornell Cooperative Extension Master Gardener, Sandy Ebberts will walk you through the steps of starting, growing, harvesting, and using your indoor salad sprouts/microgreens. You will be taking your indoor salad garden home with you. All supplies will be provided. A salad made with sprouts/microgreens will be available to sample. Fee: $5.00/person. To register call Cornell Cooperative Extension, 585-394-3977 x 427 or email nea8@cornell.edu with your name, address, and phone number.
