THE ARTS COUNCIL FOR WYOMING COUNTY HAS KICKED OFF OUR HAT NOT HATE DRIVE ON JUNE 1st
Help us reach our pledge of 500 hats by July 31st!
The Arts Council for Wyoming County (ACWC) kicked off it’s support of the Hat Not Hate Campaign by hosting a knitting group in our gallery on June 1st! We’re so excited to once again participate in knitting for a great cause.
Hat Not Hate was launched in 2018 by Shira Blumenthal with support of the Lion Brand Yarn Company. As a former victim of teenage bullying Shira wanted to bring awareness to the problem and to pass along a sense of solidarity and support by passing out blue hats for students to wear throughout the National Bullying Prevention Month in October. You can find out more about her story at hatnothate.org.
Last year The Arts Council for Wyoming County collected over 200 blue hats to support this campaign, this year we’re asking for your help in collecting 500! We ask knitters and crocheters to make handmade blue hats and donate them by dropping them off or mailing them to our gallery at 31 South Main St, Perry, NY 14569. If you can’t make it during gallery hours we’ll be picking up any left outside of gallery hours up early every morning, so feel free to leave your hats outside
If you’re able we also invite you to come out and support this wonderful cause by joining one of our knitting groups held throughout the summer. Bring along your own needles, hooks, and blue yarn.
We’ll be hosting the following group knitting events:
June 9th 4-6pm @ Eagle Free Library
June 23rd 4-6pm @ Warsaw Public Library
July 13th 10am-12pm @ Creekside Fabrics and Yarns in Arcade, NY
Thanks to all who came out on June 1st, and to those who have already donated! We can’t wait to send in our 500 hats at the end of July.
