Perry High School WINS BIG with the Arts Council for Wyoming County
The Arts Council for Wyoming County (ACWC) is pleased to announce a special spring 2021 exhibition in its main gallery featuring the Perry High School art students. This unique opportunity for these students is possible due to the cancellation of ACWC’s over 25-year old Annual All County High Schools exhibition because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The public is invited to come see the work of these talented young artists. For most of them this will be their first gallery show and we’re thrilled to be able to give them the experience and exposure that comes with it! Not to mention honored to be able to feature artists at the beginning of their lifetime of work.
The ACWC / Perry High School Art Show will open on Friday, March 5, and end on Friday, March 26th with a closing awards reception at 6:30pm in the ACWC’s Main Gallery, located at 31 South Main St, in Perry. We are requesting any attendees RSVP as we are limiting attendance due to Covid-19 restrictions. In addition there will be no refreshments served and all social distancing protocols will be observed.
In addition to the honor of being the only Wyoming County high school to exhibit in the Arts Council’s gallery this year, two students from Perry High School were selected to receive the top two ACWC’s youth scholarships:
ACWC & CREEKSIDE FABRICS VISUAL ARTS SCHOLARSHIP
Youth artist and high school student Lauren West was selected to receive ACWC & CREEKSIDE FABRICS VISUAL ARTS SCHOLARSHIP for young artists. This award provides her with the opportunity to spend a year studying with a master artist. The apprenticeship will culminate with a solo exhibition at the ACWC in May of 2022. This scholarship is for high school students who wish to further their studies in visual arts: photography, fiber arts, ceramics, carpentry, drawing or painting. Valued at $900, the “ACWC & Creekside Fabrics Visual Arts Scholarship for young artists” is made possible through a partnership with the ACWC and Creekside Fabrics located in Arcade NY.
BALUS FOUNDATION YOUNG PERFORMANCE SCHOLARSHIP
Young performing artist and high school student Emma McLaughlin will use her award to further her interest in musical theatre. This scholarship is made possible through the Balus Foundation and is awarded each year to one or two high school students from Wyoming County who wish to further their studies in the performing arts. The grant (up to $500) may be used to help with summer music camp fees or ongoing lessons from a professional teacher or institution. In addition to other select performances. Emma will perform a solo recital at the ACWC in the Fall of 2021.
The ACWC congratulates these two Perry Central High School youth artists for their hard work and this new accomplishment! For over forty years, the Arts Council for Wyoming County (ACWC) has created opportunities to bring arts into their rural communities through programming, grants, and art events. Located on Main Street Perry, the ACWC has produced the Letchworth Arts and Crafts Show, one of the largest and highest-rated shows in the region.
The ACWC is also Wyoming County’s NYSCA Decentralization Site for Community Arts Grants. For more information on membership or advocacy in the arts, please visit www.artswyco.org.
