POLICE REFORM AND REINVENTIVE COLLABORATIVE SECOND PRESENTATION AND YCSO
Yates County Legislature Chairman Douglas Paddock announces the second public power point presentations by zoom, and by limited gathering at the Yates County Legislative Chambers. The presentation will be by Sheriff Ron Spike and supervisory staff. The first presentation was January 19.
Governor Cuomo’s Executive Order directs municipalities to review their community needs and evaluate law enforcement’s current policies and practices, to foster trust, fairness and legitimacy to address bias, and any disproportionate policing of communities of color as a part of the state’s criminal justice reform, as well as use of force and officer’s conduct. Further, to review police services currently being provided by the agency.
Additionally the Legislature has a county Q/A survey related to this review available on the Yates County website. The Yates County Legislature must do a certification of reform compliance or plan, on or before April 1, 2021, or risk the loss of state aid from the NYS Division of Budget.
The second presentation will be in the legislative chambers, 417 Liberty Street, Penn Yan. Seating is limited and reservations must be made to assure adequate social distancing. Contact Connie Hayes (chaye@yatescounty.org or 315-536-5150) if you wish to attend in person. Copies of the survey will also be available at that time.
