ARTS COUNCIL FOR WYOMING COUNTY (ACWC) KICKS OFF 2021 GALLERY SEASON WITH LOCAL COLOR & RISING STAR EXHIBITIONS!
Works highlight ACWC’s 2021 Theme “Broken”
Perry, New York – The annual ACWC “Local Color” and Rising Star exhibitions are currently open to the public and will end with a closing reception on February 26. As a result of COVID-19 this will be a hybrid reception, with both in-person attendance and digital streaming, and all social distancing protocols will be observed.
Executive Director Jacqueline Swaby said “The theme “Broken “ was determined after our staff members invested significant time and thought into reviewing the options presented for consideration. I thought this theme would resonate with the general public as a result of the experiences of 2020 and how they affected us personally and globally. Indeed, it also provided a plethora of ideas for our artists to create meaningful and poignant pieces for the show; they did not disappoint!”
The public is invited to help select the People’s Choice Award by visiting the gallery and voting for their favorite piece before February 13.
Running in conjunction with Local Color in our Members Gallery is the exhibition “The Earth Laughs” by of potter and ACWC’s 2020 Rising Star Artist, Andrew Foster
Andrew is a December 2017 BFA graduate of Houghton College where he majored in Studio Art and specialized in Ceramics. Most of Andrew’s pieces are created on a Shimpo RK Whisper wheel in his home studio. He is also a member of Flower City Art Center, where he glazes and fires his pottery. His stoneware pieces are created using traditional techniques, including hand building, slab work, and the pottery wheel.
Both shows will end on Friday, February 26, with a closing reception featuring local musician Mark Grover, artists’ talks, juried awards and the announcement of the People’s Choice award.
