National Newspaper Week, October 4-10th, 2020
National Newspaper Week, recognized October 4-10, 2020, is an annual celebration to acknowledge the service of newspapers, including rural publications like Owl Light News.
We love offering New York State a trusted source of local news with local views. Newspapers everywhere, large and small, provide a record of history as it unfolds; we are honored to be a part of that and honored that so many people value what we offer the communities we serve and trust us with their voices.
In observation of National Newspaper Week, we encourage you to write a Letter to the Editor on a local issue that matters to you (editor@canadicepress.com). Purchase a subscription to show your community pride and help us support our local businesses (especially during these most trying of times). We welcome feedback and submissions ongoing, and love to help individuals and communities across our great state share the special and unique messages about who we are.
National Newspaper Week began as an annual observance in 1940. An early proclamation declared, “This love of freedom was brought to America by its settlers and instilled in the voice of its first newspaper, the Boston News Letter, published by John Campbell in 1704 (nationaldaycalendar.com).
There is no greater freedom than the freedom of expression, and no better way to have your voice heard than through print and online newspapers as they continue to battle the dragons of oppression with paper and pen.
