The four artists who will be exhibiting are:
Edd Tokarz Harnas of Honolulu, Hawaii has been with West End Gallery for more than 25 years. Except for attending an occasional workshop, this Corning native is a self-developed artist who enjoys experimenting with technique, media and subject matter. His interpretations vary from the charming aspects of the Hawaii landscape amid urban sprawl, to the landmarks of his birthplace, portraiture and figure studies. Harnas’ artwork has been featured on stage for Corning Summer Theatre and in an article in “Equine Images” magazine. Selected by noted art curators, critics and fellow artists, Harnas’ work has been included in many exhibitions across the United States. His paintings and drawings continue to find enthusiastic collectors across several continents.
Brian M. Hart of Corning, NY In his artist’s statement Hart says, “As an artist, I am drawn to scenes where nature and man-made elements come together. Although I have painted many images that have included nature in its purest sense, such as wildlife art, what I find most intriguing as an artist is the perfect light on a stone archway or the reflection of a fishing boat on the mirror-like surface of the water. I have taken part in a number of national shows and received several awards on this stage. Since 1995, ten of my paintings have been juried into the Top 100 of the Arts for the Parks competition and in 1998 I earned the Award of Historical Merit. Working with Mill Pond Press, two of my paintings were made into limited edition prints for the Friends of the NRA and sold across the country. Each edition of 1,000 depicted historic events in America. In 2005, I received the President’s Award from American Artists Professional League. I strive to produce representational images that clearly define the structure of the world in which we live in evocative and dramatic ways. It is very easy to find beauty in the Finger Lakes region, however, I also find other regions and subjects to be compelling and inspiring. In addition to area landscapes, I paint seascapes and cowboy paintings for galleries in New England and the West. I think it would be accurate to group me as multi-regionalist painter.”
Jennifer Miller of Olean, NY Jennifer Miller lives just outside of her home town of Olean, NY, where she has spent most of her life surrounded by all she loves most: a natural setting of eastern deciduous forest and wildlife, where visiting birds are a special delight. In addition to the company of wild birds, Jennifer keeps a flock of pet chickens and is regularly entertained by their individual personalities. Indoors, her home is made more lively by the companionship of three parrots and a sassy domestic pigeon. The wild and domestic birds are endless inspiration for her work, even finding their way into her fantasy art, where the imaginative creatures are given the same attention to detail, anatomy, and behavior as their real counterparts. Birds have been a lifelong passion for Jennifer, and her love and devotion to them shines through in her artwork. Jennifer shares her life and adventures with her husband, Brian.
A love of exploring the natural world and enjoyment in learning about both flora and fauna often drives Jennifer and her work. Every walk outdoors is a nature walk and Jennifer participates as a hobbyist naturalist and citizen scientist. Her passion for conservation is echoed through her personal life; applying permaculture and strong habitat ideals to her property both in gardening, in restoring native flora to create better habitat, and powering her home with solar energy.
Jennifer’s work has won many awards, both nationally and internationally. Notably, one of her paintings won the prestigious Federal Duck Stamp competition, and became the 2015-2016 Federal Duck Stamp, which has gone on to raise millions of dollars for habitat conservation. She is also a Signature Member of Artists for Conservation.
Gina Pfleegor of Corning, NY In her artist’s statement, Gina says, “I graduated from the State University of New York at Fredonia in 1998 with a Bachelors of Art in Graphic Design and a Bachelors of Science in Communication. In 2000, I decided to pursue my Masters in Art Education at Elmira College while also starting a career as an illustrator. I began teaching art at Hammondsport High School shortly thereafter as well as illustrating material for dozens of magazines and various promotional material. My first illustrated children’s book, entitled I Like Gum (written by Doreen Tango Hampton), was published in 2007 by Shenanigan Books. For the next several years, I went on to have dozens of children’s books and educational material published by McGraw Hill, the Brown Publishing Network, and many more. In 2013, I had an artistic change of heart and began a new journey as a photorealist painter working primarily in oils. My current work has been accepted into juried shows throughout the region and has won several major awards. You can see my work regularly at the gallery of the Arts Council of the Southern Finger Lakes and West End Gallery in beautiful Corning, NY.”
