I am not a gutter ball
by T. Touris –
Hurricane Harvey and the devastation in Houston and surrounding areas gives one pause, pain and concern for our great big galactic bowling ball in the Milky Way.
A few years ago, a torrential rain, the same one that flooded Honeoye, washed a bowling ball named Bob into our yard. Bob rolled in with numerous rocks and sediment from high up on the hill above our property. Going from silky smooth, varnished maple floors to a rocky, class V whitewater gutter in Canadice has traumatized Bob.
Bob has had enough and he’s bitter. Is this what he gets for a lifetime of hitting all those strikes and scoring those spares?
We’re trying to transition him into a nice retirement as a moss covered garden ornament. It’s a gradual process, but he seems to be adjusting.
