Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Secures $250K Grant to Launch Body-Worn Camera Program

GENESEO, N.Y., Feb. 5, 2024 —The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO) has secured a $250,000 grant from the New York State Division of Criminal Justice Services to launch a comprehensive body-worn camera program.

After the Livingston County Board of Supervisors approved both the grant funds and a body-worn camera contract, the LCSO entered into a strategic agreement with Axon, a provider of law enforcement technology solutions. The grant funding will allow the LCSO to purchase 95 state-of-the-art body-worn cameras, which will be used by all members in the patrol, jail, court security, and criminal investigations divisions.

“The introduction of body-worn cameras aligns with our continued efforts to enhance transparency, officer and public safety, and accountability in the Sheriff’s Office,” said Livingston County Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty. “This technology will be a valuable tool in our mission to uphold the highest standards of professionalism and public service here in Livingston County.”

The Sheriff’s Office is on track for a targeted body-worn camera program launch date of March 1, 2024. Body-worn cameras have become essential law enforcement tools across the country, providing an objective account of interactions between police officers and the public they serve. The footage recorded by these cameras serves various purposes, including evidence collection, training to improve law enforcement practices, and enhancing accountability.
