Artwork for Conservation
Genesee Valley Conservancy proudly announces the sixth annual Genesee Valley 100 community-based art project will be on display at Silver Lake Brewing Project, 14 Borden Avenue, Perry, NY starting on Wednesday November 15th through the end of the year.
One hundred works make up this year’s show, each created by a local artist. This year’s theme, mixed-media, gave artists full control over the materials they used to create their work. Past themes have been painting, photographer, and fiber arts.
A total of 86 artists from 33 towns created this year’s show, mirroring the large and diverse geography that Genesee Valley Conservancy is working to protect.
Silver Lake Brewing Project is open Wednesdays and Thursdays from 5pm to 9pm, Fridays and Saturdays from noon to 9pm, and Sundays from noon to 6pm. Artwork can also be viewed online where all works are also available for sale: www.geneseevalleyconservancy.org/gv100.
Genesee Valley Conservancy first organized the Genesee Valley 100 project in 2018 to draw attention to the habitat, open space, and farmland of the Genesee Valley region.
The project aims to include artists of all ages and abilities. “Artists must follow two rules: first, create a piece 12 x12 inches and second, create a work inspired by the Genesee Valley,” says Genesee Valley Conservancy Executive Director Benjamin Gajewski.
The local not-for-profit Genesee Valley Conservancy is a land conservation group focused on protecting the habitat, open space, and farmland of the Genesee Valley in New York State, through its network of nature preserves with public trails and conservation agreements with private landowners. “Our communities need clean water, fresh air, and productive farmland. This project showcases these important resources and raises awareness of the work that the Genesee Valley Conservancy has been doing for 33 years,” says Gajewski.
All artwork is available for purchase, with prices set by the artists and proceeds split between the artist and Genesee Valley Conservancy.
Genesee Valley Conservancy is a nationally accredited non-profit conservation organization working to protect the habitat, open space, and farmland in the Genesee River watershed. Over 29,290 acres of natural habitat, productive farm, and forest land have been conserved by Genesee Valley Conservancy’s work with private landowners. The organization also owns nature preserves open to the public year-round for recreation and education. For more information visit www.geneseevalleyconservancy.org.
