Experimental films by filmmaker Kenneth Anger
Visual Studies Workshop will host a screening of 16mm experimental films by filmmaker Kenneth Anger on Tuesday, September 12th in the VSW Microcinema.
Kenneth Anger (February 3, 1927 – May 11, 2023) was a prolific underground experimental filmmaker who explored ritual, the occult, and queerness in his decades spanning career. In tribute to Anger’s legacy, VSW will show four of Anger’s most decadent, saturated and subversive color films from the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s. The entire program will be shown on 16mm film in the VSW Microcinema. Long Live Experimental Film!
Titles include:
Puce Moment (1949)
Inauguration of the Pleasure Dome (1954)
Scorpio Rising (1964)
Kustom Kar Kommandos (1965)
About the VSW Salon:
The VSW Salon is a bi-monthly engagement in the VSW microcinema featuring film screenings, artist talks, Community Curator events, performances, photo presentations and conversations. The VSW Salon showcases the work of local and national artists, and invites them to present their work in an intimate “microcinema” equipped to show 16mm, Super 8, digital photography and video on state of the art equipment.
The VSW Salon continues a 54 year tradition of showcasing expansive, experimental photography and media art in the Rochester community. We are excited to invite the public to join us in our newly renovated microcinema or to join us on the VSW Twitch site. Suggested ticket prices are $10, but participants may pay what they can.
