Invasive Species Event TODAY – Geneseo
Get A Hand on Invasive Species Event Set for Wednesday, June 7th at Indian Fort Nature Preserve
GENESEO, N.Y., June 5, 2023 – The Livingston County Environmental Management Council and the Genesee Valley Conservancy are hosting a free public event in recognition of the New York State Invasive Species Awareness Week extravaganza. Volunteers will learn to identify and get hands-on experience removing some common invasive plant species that are impacting forests throughout the region. No prior experience is necessary. The event will take place at Indian Fort Nature Preserve on Wednesday, June 7th, from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at 3432 Jones Bridge Road, Geneseo, N.Y. 14454.
Hike in and learn about the history of the 60-acre forested preserve that features a waterfall, pond, small boat launch to the Genesee River and miles of trails. Hear about forestry stewardship, see the impacts of invasive species and understand how you can help to protect biodiversity and wildlife habitats. Learn from Conservancy staff about how to remove invasive plant species using basic hand tools. Giveaways, water, light snacks, work gloves and tools will be provided or participants can bring their own shovel, loppers and hand trowels if preferred. Those planning to attend should wear a hat, long pants, long sleeves, hiking boots and pack bug spray.
