VSW’s Media Conversion Lab at VSW now open to the public!

February 21, 2023 – Media digitization services now available through Visual Studies Workshop

VSW is now offering affordable digitization services for older videotapes and audio recordings in our state of the art Media Conversion Lab. In 2019, VSW built an in-house digitization lab to preserve more than 8 formats of video and audio found in our media archives. Since then, we have transferred more than 300 of our oldest and most vulnerable videotapes, and learned a great deal about the preservation of magnetic media. We are now offering our affordable digitization services to the public through the VSW Media Conversion Lab!

We are currently able to digitize 13 formats, including: VHS, Betamax, UMatic, and ½” open reel video, as well as audio cassette tapes and ¼” audio recordings. We offer hands-on care for your fragile media, and will provide you with easy to access digital files that you can easily share with family and friends. We specialize in serving the needs of families, artists, grassroots organizations and nonprofit organizations in Western New York.
