ARTS COUNCIL FOR WYOMING COUNTY’S BALUS SCHOLAR MARYGRACE SCHENK RECITAL PERFORMANCE ON SATURDAY DECEMBER 17 AT 7 PM.
The public is invited to attend Marygrace Schenk’s dance recital on Saturday, December 17, at 7 pm in the ACWC Gallery
Marygrace was selected to receive the Balus Scholarship this year based on her commitment to studying dance, character display in the classroom, and potential as a young artist. She began training full-time at the Genesee Dance Theatre Studio in 2020 after several years at recreational dance schools. Her dance teacher Sarah Keeler noted that, “In the fall 2021 season, Marygrace trained between 6 and 8 hours per week in ballet (including pointe), modern, and musical theatre styles of jazz dance.”
Marygrace will showcase some of these styles on December 17, during her recital performance at the ACWC’s Main St. Gallery located in Perry. This event does not require tickets, but reservations are required. (Optional donations will be accepted at the door.)
The Balus Scholarship is made possible through the Balus Foundation and individual donors. It is awarded once each year to one or two high school students who wish to further their studies in the performing arts. The grant (up to $500) may be used to help with summer music camp fees or ongoing lessons from a professional teacher or institution. Recipients of this scholarship are expected to give a solo recital and perform at select ACWC events throughout the year, including the Community Arts Grants Awards Ceremony that is held in March, where this award is presented.

For over forty years, the Arts Council for Wyoming County (ACWC) has created opportunities to bring arts into their rural communities through programming, grants, and art events. Located on Main Street Perry, the ACWC has produced the Letchworth Arts and Crafts Show, one of the largest and highest-rated shows in the region.
Funding for the ACWC is made possible in part with support from the New York State Council on the Arts with support from the office of the Governor, and the New York State Legislature. The ACWC’s mission and work align with NYSCA’s goal of “impacting a broad, diverse constituency in New York State.” We are also committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion with a deep commitment to supporting local and regional artists whose investment of their time and talent play an essential role in the health and vitality of our community.
