Illustrator Ryan Kovar at Williams-Insalaco Gallery 34
The Williams-Insalaco Gallery 34 at the Finger Lakes Community College main campus is hosting an exhibit by Ryan Kovar, a Rochester illustrator and animator.
Kovar, who said he tries to “embrace the strange, unusual and absurd when creating” is a 2012 FLCC graphic arts graduate. He completed a bachelor’s in fine arts in film an animation at Rochester Institute of Technology in 2016.
The gallery will host a talk by Kovar on Thursday, Dec. 8, from 2 to 3 p.m. and a reception from 4 to 6:30 p.m. The gallery is on the first floor of the main campus at 3325 Marvin Sands Drive. Both events are free and open to the public.
The 2 p.m. talk will be available on Zoom at this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/88198233353 Meeting ID: 881 9823 3353
The exhibit is open through Friday, Dec. 16 and currently shares the space with the crocheted coral reef exhibit by Judi Cermak.
Kovar works in illustration, character design, graphic design, animation and voice-over acting. Since graduating from RIT, he has created art for various media, including magazines, children’s books, print advertising, short films and a cartoon series.
“I specialize in creating fun, whimsical illustrations of cartoon characters, animals and fantastical other worldly creatures, who can express a wide range emotion through clear expressions and strong poses,” he said. “Whether they’re human, an animal or a creature, making the unusual relatable is what drives me to create.”
Kovar illustrated the children’s book Wildly Perfect, published in 2021 and is currently writing and illustrating his own children’s book.
