Attacking the Senses: Adding Apples = Scrumptious

Now I am no doctor, but I know that attacking your meals with apples in different ways won’t keep anyone away. Apples carry all the weapons to attack any meal. They are a very versatile fruit because they can be baked, saute’ed, browned and sauced, Here are a few ideas about incorporating the sweet tastes, crunchy texture and wonderful smells of apples into any meal.
Remember, the most important thing is to be adventurous, have fun!
Turn those plain potatoes into some
Monstrous Mashed
1) Peel and core two apples and dice into 1/4 inch pieces. In a saute’ pan, brown the apples with a teaspoon of crushed garlic and a small amount of butter.
2) Meanwhile, boil two pounds of potatoes until tender then drain. Add 1/4 cup cream, 1/4 pound butter, 3 tablespoons of nutmeg, salt and pepper then mash.
3) Time to attack. Stir the diced apples into the mashed potatoes.
Watch as eyes widen to this Trick or Treat!
Apple & Raisin Chutney
Ingredients:
1 pound chopped dried apples
1 pound golden seedless raisins
1 tablespoon butter
2 ounces rum
Brown apples and raisins with butter on stovetop, stirring occaisionally for 5 minutes over medium heat.
Add rum and carefully flame to burn off alcohol.
Great on chicken, pork or as a side dish.
