Filmmaker Tomonari Nishikawa at the VSW Salon February 9th
January 26 – On February 9, filmmaker Tomonari Nishikawa (Japan/USA) will present a program of his experimental films at the VSW Salon, and discuss his process-based approach to visual and temporal composition. Nishikawa’s intricate cinematic technique weaves time and space into graphic patterns, undulating rhythms and colorful forms, resulting in an expansive perceptual experience of often familiar subjects. This program will include films shown in 16mm, Super 8 and digital formats.
About the VSW Salon: The VSW Salon is a bi-monthly engagement in the VSW microcinema featuring film screenings, artist talks, Community Curator events, performances, photo presentations and conversations. The VSW Salon showcases the work of local and national artists, and invites them to present their work in an intimate “microcinema” equipped to show 16mm, Super 8, digital photography and video on state of the art equipment.
Most VSW Salon events begin at 6pm with a one hour Open Studio with the current VSW Project Space resident artists, followed by the featured event at 7:00 pm. All events are in-person unless otherwise indicated, with limited seating. Suggested ticket prices are $10, but participants may pay what they can. The VSW Salon is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts and by the ArtWorks program of the National Endowment for the Arts.
