Livingston County Invests in Local OWWL Libraries with $100K Budget Allocation
GENESEO, N.Y., Jan. 5, 2023 — Livingston County is proud to help support the OWWL Library System through a $100,000 funding allocation included in the County’s 2023 budget.
The funding will go directly to aid and improve the eight OWWL libraries in Livingston County. The OWWL Library System is a non-profit organization supporting library services across Ontario, Wayne, Wyoming, and Livingston counties. The County’s library funding demonstrates its strong commitment to the community, said Ron Kirsop, Executive Director of the OWWL Library System.
“It’s fantastic that Livingston County provides direct support to its libraries,” he explained. “To me, this shows a dedication to information, access, and literacy; three things that libraries are incredibly passionate about. Personally, I am always impressed and appreciative towards local governments that prioritize funding to their libraries.”
Kirsop said these funds will have a significant impact on Livingston County libraries in furthering their missions to support their communities. This County funding will go directly to OWWL libraries in Livingston County, with a small portion set aside for capital improvement grants. The OWWL Library System will use these grants for minor construction projects smaller than the minimum amount needed for the NYS Aid for Library Construction program. Again, only Livingston County libraries will be eligible for this County-funded capital improvement grant aid.
“Local libraries provide a vital service to our communities,” said David LeFeber, Chair of the County’s Board of Supervisors. “All our residents should have access to the free information and educational services available there. We’re proud to support our local libraries across the County and encourage all our residents to do the same.”
