The Light Lens: Young woman takes in County Line Falls
By T. Touris – This wet spring has the many beautiful waterfalls of our area putting on quite a show for those who are willing to brave a little mud. This photo was taken on a warm, sunny day this April at the little gem of a falls that is located on the Ontario-Livingston county line at the southern end of Hemlock Lake.
While there, this young lady had become a bit lightheaded from the breathtaking beauty of the falls. Fortunately she was able to avert disaster and avoid a 60’ drop down the cliff by pulling out her cell phone, which allowed her to re-orient herself and view the falls through the familiar 5” screen. Later she lamented not having her noise cancelling headphones that would have allowed her to enjoy the hypnotic waters in stereophonic sound.
To reach the top of the falls, you can take a short 0.4 mile trail from a small parking area off of Johnson Hill Road. After viewing the falls from the crest, if conditions permit you can cross the creek and follow a beautiful moss covered loop trail. There is a second lower falls on this creek as well. It is visible from Route 15A, just south of where Old Bald Hill Road intersects 15A. For more information about the many trails and scenic wonders of our area, the Springwater Trails Organization, www.springwatertrails.org, is a great resource.
